SCREENWRITING: STEP BY STEP

"I've been writing screenplays for five years and have read most of the definitive books on story, structure, theme, premise, etc. etc. This book should be the first book any aspiring screenwriter should buy. " --Scott R. Weber, amazon.com

"The discussion of protagonists and antagonists is one of the most lucid I have seen." --Peer Review

"We were especially impressed with the sections on theme and expressing characters' emotions through actions." --Hollywood Scriptwriter

"The book is written with energy, wit and confidence. Clearly, this is a field in which Ms. Henson is comfortable and knowledgeable." --Peer Review

"This satisfying handbook provides screenwriters with information they need without embellishments that can confuse them." --Script Magazine

Screenwriting: Step by Step  is a clear, simple, user-friendly, basic introduction to successful screenwriting for beginning and novice screenwriters.

Two distinct sections let new writers pace themselves comfortably. The First Six Steps teaches the basics of writing dramatic material, such choosing a theme and establishing a central conflict. The Next Six Steps deals expressly with writing drama for film and making a story work on the screen.

The text explains dramatic and cinematic principles in clear, simple, conversational prose, helping to eliminate confusion and jump start the beginner's writing process.

Exercises at the end of each chapter help students clarify and reinforce the concepts.

The book is available at bookstores and libraries worldwide.  Currently, it is used as a textbook for screenwriting courses in three countries.  Online, it is readily available from the publisher, Allyn and Bacon,  amazon.com, and barnesandnoble.com.  Used books are available at some locations. Prices can vary widely. To compare prices, try nextag.com.

If your local library does not have a copy, ask the staff to obtain one on interlibrary loan.
